6 Cimi (June 1)

6 Cimi (June 1): Upon this day we pray that we and those dear to us have long life. There is a special connection to the world of the ancestors on this day; communication with other worlds is possible. This day is also favorable for healing and for the protection of travelers.

There is a secret teaching regarding this day-sign, one which was related to me both by the Kaqchikel philosopher Lem Batz and by Martin Prechtel. In the Kaqchikel and Tz’tujil languages, the word kame signifies not only “death,” like the Yucatec Cimi, but is also a term for the present tense, in the grammatical sense. Hence the inner or esoteric meaning of this day-sign is “the Eternal Present.” Each present moment becomes past at the very moment that it comes into being; hence death and the Eternal Now are as one.
